Work Lights vs

Production Lights

All of our theatres are equipped with two lighting systems:

The Work Light system comprises flourescent or LED fixtures that are low-cost, energy efficient, and provides a good wash of the stage allowing safe working conditions.

The Production Light system comprises of a mix of high-wattage tungsten theatrical fixtures, high-output LED color theatrical fixtures, and automated lighting fixtures. The more we update the system to LED sources, the more energy-efficient the system becomes. However, fixtures providing the high-output necessary for our stages, as well as the high-wattage theatrical lamps, are costly.

Our goal is to be good stewards of these fixtures to ensure they are functioning properly for class presentations, performing arts performances, and other events. As such we have established the following policy:

Assembly rehearsals in excess of the 3-hour rehearsal time, non-blackout performing arts rehearsals, class meetings, and stage construction/preparation sessions will be conducted with work lights only. Please contact the Theatre Manager for considering any exceptions.

The production lights are only accessible via the lighting control system, which must be operated by a theatre staff member or approved student technician with prior knowledge/approval by the Theatre Manager.
